Medea is a story of revenge the tale of a 'barbarian' woman who falls in love with the hero, Jason, and follows him to 'civilised' Greece. She is betrayede by the man for whom she gave up everything, and Medea's fury is unleashed. She exacts revenge upon her husband, his new young wife, and the king of Corinth, who gave his daughter in marriage to Jason. Medea's ultimate deed is to slaughter her two sons, which she does to ensure Jason never forgets her. Most unusually, all characters, including the Chorus, are performed by actor Peter Kowitz. Masks, music, lighting changes, and the actor's skill allow each character to be clearly defined and understood. The result is an exciting and dynamic evening of theatre. |
