Laurence began his performing career in 1982 as a stand up comic. Under the 'nom-de-mic' of Pat McGroin he was one of several who established and legitimised 'New Wave' comedy in this country. Over the past 23 years he has performed thousands of shows throughout Australia, Britain, Ireland, North America and South East Asia. He is a graduate in Theatre Studies from UNSW, in Acting from WAAPA and in Directing from NIDA. In Australia he has acting credits with all the State Theatre Companies, Perth and Adelaide Festivals, Bell Shakespeare, Marion St and with many commercial and fringe producers. He has also performed widely in Britain and Ireland - most notably in the acclaimed touring production of Ron Blair's The Christian Brothers in 1999. His most recent performance at the Darlinghurst Theatre was in Portia Coughlan in 2003. Directing credits range through ancient texts, Shakespeare, Restoration Comedy to modern British, Irish and American work. He holds a special place in his heart for Australian plays though and works with them as often as possible. Aside from acting and directing
he tries to bring his love of storytelling to young people through
teaching at the Australian Academy of Dramatic Art.
